The final day of the November Cozy Release has reserves us the most adorable kitty and puppy stamp sets! Both new Newton’s Reading List Stamp Set and Puppy’s Reading List Stamp Set are filled with many fun puns that will fit inside the book cover. In case you’re interested, there are the coordinating Newton’s Reading List Die Set and Puppy’s Reading List Die Set.
Working with this cute new critter sets, I decide to come up with two similar layouts, but created in different ways and using different techniques!
Key Ingredients:
Step By Step Instructions:
- Die cut from Strathmore Bristol paper a kitty reading a book, using the coordinating Newton’s Reading List Die Set and Spellbinders Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine or Sizzix Big Shot Die Cutting Machine. Save the negative part of the die.
- Stamp the outline illustration from Newton’s Reading List Stamp Set with VersaFine Onyx Black pigment ink, using the negative part of the die as a guide for a perfect alignment inside the stamping positioning tool.
- Color the stamps with water based markers. On this card I used ZIG CLEAN COLOUR REAL BRUSH MARKERS:
- 026 Light Pink
- 220 Tea Rose
- 041 Light Green
- 045 Pale Green
- 050 Yellow
- 052 Bright Yellow
- 060 Brown
- 061 Light Brown
- 070 Orange
- 081 Light Violet
- 091 Cool Gray 2
- Stamp the sentiment on the book cover with VersaFine Onyx Black pigment ink.
- Trim and score an extended A2 size card base (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″) from Neenah Solar White paper. I used Tim Holtz Maxi Guillotine Trimmer and Mini Score Board.
- Trim a slightly smaller rectangle from the same from Neenah Solar White paper to use as a background.
- Mask a portion of the background with a lock tack tape. Help yourself with the grid on the craft mat.
- Ink the masked area with Distress inks, using the blending brushes to achieve a soft and smooth transition between the colors. My color combo was:
- Secure Meow Stencil on the inked area with a lock tack tape to prevent any movements and add the pattern through the stencil with the same shades of Distress inks that you used before.
- Carefully lift up the stencil and splatter the inked portion with a white gouache diluted with a small amount of water.
- Let the gouache air dry well and then remove the masking tape.
- Arrange and glue in place all the elements on the card front by popping them on a foam tape for a bit of dimension.
- Finish with a few highlights added with a white gel pen and a couple of matching sequins.
