Tea Party Card ft. Purple Onion Designs

by Tatiana

Hello and welcome!

Today I’m sharing a SWEET tea party card that features some of my favorite stamps from Purple Onion Designs! This card, as you may guess, was inspired by one of my favorite books – “Alice In Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll!

It was so much fun to dig through my stash and put up together a couple of stamps that originally were not designed as characters from any book! This tea party scene was literally pieced together by my imagination! In fact, Lori – the mouse on the left – comes from a Christmas collection of stamps and is illustrated sitting on a stool. So I stamped this critter partially, just the portion that I needed to pop from the cups.

Step By Step Instructions:

Designer’s Tip:

Since rubber stamps from Purple Onion Designs come unmounted, you will need a temporary mounting solution to work with. A Clear Mounting Stamp is one of the options. You can apply this clear stamp on an acrylic block or acrylic stamping platform to hold your unmounted stamps in place while stamping. Remove and store it when finished until next time. The clear stamp can be cleaned with water and a little liquid soap.

  • Fussy cut all the stamps with the sharp small scissors, leaving a little white edge around.
  • Color all the elements with COPIC MARKERS. I used:
    • pink RV0000-RV000-RV00-RV10-RV13
    • red R0000-R000-R20-R21-R22
    • yellow Y0000-Y11-Y13-Y15
    • orange YR0000-YR000-YR01-YR02
    • green YG0000-YG01-YG03
    • teal BG0000-BG000-BG10-BG11-BG23
    • violet V0000-V000-V01-V12
    • brown E40-E41-E42-E43
  • Trim and score an extended A2 size card base (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″) from Neenah Solar White paper. I used Tim Holtz Maxi Guillotine Trimmer and Mini Score Board on my card.
  • Trim another slightly smaller rectangle for the background from the same Neenah Solar White paper or Hammermill cardstock.
  • Mask the top part of the background with a wide low tack tape.
  • Secure Simon Says Stamp Irregular Dots stencil on the bottom part of the background and ink it with Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink, using the blending brush. Lift up the stencil and keep inking the whole area with the leftover ink on the brush.
  • Reposition the wide low tack tape to mask the bottom part of the background. Secure again Simon Says Stamp Irregular Dots stencil on the background and ink the top part with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink, using the blending brush. Lift up the stencil and keep inking the whole area with the leftover ink on the brush.
  • Lift up the stencil and the masking tape and splatter the inked background with some tiny dots of water or a pearlescent solution.
  • Die cut a scalloped frame from Neenah Solar White paper, using a nested rectangle dies and Spellbinders Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine or Sizzix Big Shot Die Cutting Machine. I used SugarPea Designs Card Front Element Builder Dies and Stitched Rectangles Dies from my stash.
  • Arrange and glue in place all the elements on the card front, by popping some of them on a foam tape for a fun dimensional look.
  • Finish with a few highlights added with a white gel pen and some clear sparkling sequins adhered with Bearly Art – Precision Craft Glue.
